About

I love my work. Helping patients achieve wellness and balance through integrative and holistic healthcare is incredibly rewarding. I thrive on being a part of my patients’ health journeys and am grateful for each new opportunity for learning and growth.

Since 2011, I’ve treated thousands of patients in the fast-paced clinic setting of East Austin’s Neighborhood Acupuncture Project (NAP). Years of clinic work inspired me to offer holistic patient care in a personal treatment setting.

In 2018, I began my private practice, Austin Acupuncture & Wellness, where I offer personalized treatment in a welcoming and relaxing environment.

Joanne Tait, L.Ac., Dipl. NCBAHM, CYT

At Austin Acupuncture & Wellness, I’ll work with you to address your unique needs and healthcare goals for a wide range of conditions, including allergies, chronic and acute pain, stress, anxiety, depression, digestive disorders, sleep issues, and women’s health issues such as PMS, PMOS, infertility, hormone balance, menopause symptoms, and many others.

My custom-tailored sessions offer time-proven holistic methods, strategies, and treatments that may include acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, moxibustion, e-stim, herbal therapy, yoga, and lifestyle recommendations.

We’ll look at both the root and manifestations of your imbalance and develop a personal treatment plan that aims to integrate your body, mind, and spirit.

Treatment

As a complement to holistic treatments, I offer private yoga instruction through Austin Acupuncture & Wellness. I work with students at all levels—from absolute beginners to lifelong practitioners.

I completed the Sivananda Yoga Ashram’s training program in 2005, and my teaching style is accessible, blending Sivananda principles with Iyengar-inspired alignment and breath-centered Vinyasa flow.

I’ve taught yoga for gyms, corporate clients, non-profit organizations, and donation-based classes. I currently enjoy teaching beginner level classes for City of Austin employees.

Licensure, Education, Training, and Experience

I’m a Licensed Acupuncturist, Diplomate in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine certified by the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, and certified yoga teacher.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior from the University of Maryland, College Park, my educational journey led me to beautiful, music-filled Austin, where in 2011 I earned my Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine.

In 2009, I took part in academic seminars, mind-body classes, and clinical observation rounds at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a Chinese teaching hospital integrating Eastern and Western medicine.

In my two-year Graduate Mentorship Program with Sharon Weizenbaum I’ve gained invaluable knowledge of and experience with classical herbs based on the Shang Han Lun, Wang Ju-Yi’s Applied Channel Theory, Dr. Tan’s Balance Method, Korean Sa’am Four Needle Technique, Shang Han Lun Herbal Pulse Diagnosis, Five Element Theory, Kiiko Matsumoto Style (KMS), and Japanese Hara Diagnosis. My nine-month mentorship with Randine Lewis, Daoism in the Death Canal, has enriched my approach to lifelong holistic healthcare.

Protecting nature is, and always has been, an important part of my life. Before moving to Austin in 2007, I worked as an environmental advocate at the Sierra Club legislative headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Here in Austin, I enjoy organic gardening and birding. When I’m not out in nature, I’m often enjoying (and dancing to) live music.

Knowledge is a treasure but practice is the key to it.
